Collaborative assembly process
1. Group formation:
Students can build 1:1 with an adult, in pairs, or in small groups of 3 to 4.
Several small groups of builders can work on different sections of the printer (sections 1 to 3).
Assign roles (Engineer, Supplier, Builder and Quality Controller) within each group.
A student can play one or more roles.
2. Introduction :
Explain the purpose of the activity and the importance of each role.
Establish ground rules at the beginning of each session to promote respect, kindness, and effective conflict resolution.
3. Construction phase :
Allow groups to begin assembling the printer.
The Engineer directs the process by referring to the instructions.
The Supplier finds and delivers the requested bricks.
The Builder constructs the model following the Engineer's advice.
The Quality controller ensure the model is assembled correctly
4. Change of roles:
Encourage groups to discuss when they should switch roles.
Promote equity in role changes to ensure everyone experiences each role.
Use timers if desired to signal when to switch roles.
5. Role of the facilitator (Teachers or other stakeholders):
Observe group interactions and provide positive feedback.
Encourage participants to communicate effectively and support each other.
Encourage problem solving and collaboration among group members.
